He was born to two powerful individuals, Helix of the North, and Calyx, the most desirable debutante of Aeglia. His birth was one of political matrimony, and he was intended to be molded into the perfect loyal servant to the crown, as they all had been. Yet, as custom had it, his mother was off fighting wars on the Northern front, and his Father was using his connections in Court to win favors and funding, so his raising was left to Chardonnay, his Father's Sister. Chardonnay was a tough politician and even tougher as a parent. She had him home-schooled and isolated for two reasons, to teach him what had become illegal by the Pyric Empire decades ago, and to control his life. He grew up without friends or peers, other than the teachers he met secretly. His twin brother Ben lived a normal life. Attended school, and played with his friends, took etiquette lessons, had visitations with his parents. They didn't see each other often, and barely knew the other existed. When he did see a glimpse of Ben, it was like seeing a glimpse into a strange mirror. Chardonnay never explained it really was his brother and not a strange reflection of himself. When he once questioned it, he never saw Ben again, and Ben never saw him. His life was confined to Chardonnay's apartment. That is, until the death of Ben. In a fatal accident, the tragedy upended Jerry's life in Chardonnay's home and launched him back into the forefront of debutante life. But by then, he'd already been influenced by Chardonnay and had a general disdain for the way high society worked. He was resistant to his parents wishes and became a delinquent. Finally free of his chains. As a young adolescent child, Jerry was more of an alley cat than an aristocrat that his parents wanted him to be. He was mostly found hanging out in the dark corners of the city, looking just about as menacing as a cat could be. Petty theft, random acts of violence, were his realm of rebellion, until one day his violence led him to attack a young Coulomb. Coulomb was a blue budgie with speech issues, a perfect target. Every day Jerry would make it his goal to antagonize Coulomb either by casually terrifying him along his courier path, stealing his mailbag, and generally making his life miserable. This went on until one day, he took the pranks too far and nearly had Coulomb killed. It was an eye opening experience and from that day forward he aided Coulomb back to health. Coulomb could no longer work as quickly because Jerry had caused Coulomb's arm/wing to break. So Jerry ended up helping Coulomb with his mail route. They became closer and soon Jerry found himself in love with Coulomb's quiet but adorably serious personality. They spent more and more time with each other. Unfortunately, Coulomb wasn't actually just a simple courier, and his job entailed much darker imports. Coulomb mixed up in a bad felinan crew when the import he was carrying was found to be fraud as a message from the original sender that they wanted nothing to do anymore. Unfortunately Coulomb got the brunt of the anger because he couldn't fly away and they caught him quickly. The only reason why he wasn't killed was because they wanted to make sure that Coulomb could send the message back. Unfortunately Coulomb fell into a irrigation ditch on his way back, broke his ankle and then ended up being dragged into the mud and dirt. Jerry had seen the little shoe on the side of the road and knowing it was Coulomb's, tracked Coulomb and found him later, near death's door, covered in mud and sludge. Frantically he pulled Coulomb out of the sewage build up and held him in his arms as Coulomb sputtered a weak, "Love you, Jerry." That was when he decided he couldn't keep living such a dangerous life and went to medical school like his parents wanted him to. He cleaned up his life and separated himself from the thugs. He later became a biofuel scientist although he originally started out as a doctor. His parents had urged him to go into medicine, but after a few years in the hospital working, he decided he had enough of it and went into hard science. He is working on alternative energy sources besides the crystal since the crystal from what they can tell is not renewable. During this time, he was tracked down by the thugs he used to be friends with who were jealous of his wealth and prestige. He was mugged and left for dead in an alleyway but a mouse (despite all the racism) nursed him back to health and bandaged him up. The mouse was Tom. Tom was kicked out of his family's house for helping a Felinan and in guilt Jerry told Tom he could temporarily stay at his home. He hadn't expected to fall in love with Tom's personality that reminded him so much of Coulomb. And they lived together for 7 years in a very loving and faithful relationship, until he noticed an unprecedented amount of stress coming from Tom. Since Tom wouldn't tell him what was wrong, he went looking for answers and sneaked into Tom's bags and found a letter from the Cardinals, asking him to lead an expedition to find the sea. He knew from their many conversations that this was Tom's dream. Something he's wanted to do since he was a child. Jerry knew he couldn't be the one to clip someone's wings... again, so he let Tom go. They decided it was impossible to continue an exclusive relationship, so they broke it off when Tom left and Jerry fell into a depressed bittersweet emotional ravine. Despite the long distance, they kept in contact in any manner they could. They sent letters to each other when convenient. A few years down the road, Jerry decided it was time for him to have kids. They'd always talked about adopting, but of course, as history dictates, they didn't have the time. So now in his 40s, having amassed a comfortable retirement plan, he delved into the process of adopting. In the end, O'Malley adopts him, rather than the other way around. After several visits to different orphanages for Felinans and Musans, he visited the Canidan Orphanage in Arnabos on a whim. There, he met O'Malley, and she took him by the hand and told him that she liked him very much. For Jerry, it was love at first sight. He took her home that very day and raised her like his own. He wrote to Tom letting him know that he'd found someone to finally fill in the hole that Tom had left. Tom did not respond for a very long time, during which O'Malley grew up quickly. She discovered Jerry's library of letters and journals sent to him by Tom and she was instantly intrigued by the adventures and sometimes silly stories Tom wrote in his meticulously neat handwriting. Jerry explains to her that they are from her other father and tells her that the author is someone he loves very dearly. Thus begins O'Malley's inspiration to become an explorer like Tom and go out to the sea. When Jerry first hears of O'Malley's desire to go out to sea, he's heart-stricken because he's already lost one love to the sea and now another wished to go. He's angry and hurt for a long time, forbidding O'Malley to do any adventuring of the sort. He knows however that inevitably O'Malley will go where her heart leads her and he can't do anything about it. So he sends her off. By then the road to the sea has been fortified and extremely easy to passage through due to Tom's ingenuity and good-natured habits that forged several friendships that allowed for the harmonious building of the Great Sea Road. It doesn't take long for her to find the seaside and there she meets Tom. Tom finally understands what Jerry had meant in his letters and despite his dangerously old age, he decides to return with O'Malley, who's entire goal had been to bring back Tom so that Jerry could see him again. They travel back to Arnabos where Jerry and Tom are reunited and for the rest of Tom's days, they live together, happily in Jerry's home, right where he should be. |
