HISTORY
Like other low-born cheetahs, Kada was sent to training camp at the age of 5 when he could run and take orders. At the training camp, cheetahs are taught how to chase, attack, and sometimes debilitate their targets. Each cohort has individuals of about the same age when they first begin, but the stages are individually determined. The graduation is dependent on the cheetah's completion of various tests.
The first is a speed test, which is usually passed quickly for cheetahs. They just have to be able to run faster than all other species on straight flat ground. The second test is agility, and they must run as fast as possible through a city terrain, in buildings and through narrow streets. This is more difficult, but rather facile with practice. Third is the combat test, where the trainee must catch and take down a target. The fourth test is a matter of intelligence, on basic rules and laws, how to read, write, and do math. The basic knowledge that every citizen is required. The fifth and final test is the test that takes the longest to master. A cheetah could pass all 4 tests and still fail the last and be held back for years. The objective of the test is to protect someone while being attacked. Since the cheetahs' main role is to be a Footshadow to a police officer, they must also be able to protect their officers at all costs. Normally, the cheetahs succeed by the age of 16 and are assigned to an officer. Upon assignment, each officer receives a manual and starter kit on how to use a cheetah efficiently. Each kit includes a collar, leash, slapstick, and spritzer. The spritzer is for mild punishment since cheetahs normally hate getting wet. The slapstick is for harsher punishment. The manual covers everything from how to punish a cheetah to how to properly tie up a cheetah during heat.
For Kada, his most difficult task was the third task. As someone who is very non-confrontational, he inevitably runs away from a fight rather than towards it. He will chase and catch up to the target, but never engage in the actual act of catching and halting. For that reason, he's often punished for his lack of obedience. As punishment, he must run in the rain, an act that most cheetahs hate because the mud gets between their toes. For Kada, it's a relief and an enjoyment. He loves it and would rather run in rain than chase and hurt someone. He ends up being named Kada the Mudrunner, because he's more often than not running in mud. His feet are nearly always dark from mud and he tends to sleep out on the front deck because he's not allowed to enter the barracks with dirty feet.
